The Ondo State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Enu-Owa Division in Ondo West Local Government Area over a viral video involving social media influencer Adefolarin Ayomiposi, popularly known as Mandy Kiss.
In a statement on Tuesday, commissioner of police Adebowale Lawal described the DPO’s action as unprofessional and contrary to police standards.
The video showed Mandykiss filming and taking pictures of two women in police custody. The women, identified as Mrs Akinwole Sabitu and her daughter Oyindamola, were accused of cyberbullying the influencer.
According to the police, Mandy Kiss allegedly tracked and arrested the suspects with the help of her social media followers before handing them over to the Enu-Owa Division. She later filmed them at the station and posted the footage online.
Mr Lawal said the DPO failed to maintain decorum during the incident, noting that such behaviour undermines the image of the force.
“Recording or photographing suspects in custody violates established ethical standards and undermines the presumption of innocence guaranteed under the law,” the commissioner said.
“The command will not condone any act capable of eroding public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.”
He added that the case was being reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The video, which circulated widely online, drew criticism from the public, with many accusing Mandy Kiss and the officers involved of humiliating the suspects.
Mandy Kiss has not responded publicly to the police decision at the time of filing this report.
