Sudanese President, Omar Al-Bashir, has been forced to resign his position after 30 years in power.

His resignation comes after days of non-stop protests in the country.

The 75-year-old has now handed over to the country’s supreme military council controlled by the armed forces.

Reports of Al-Bashir’s resignation filled the airspace after soldiers reportedly surrounded his palace in the capital Khartoum.

Al-Bashir was indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in 2008 for alleged genocide crimes.

Al-Bashir is the country’s longest serving leader since it gained independence in 1956.

Reports say the defence minister might now be in charge of the country pending when new elections are held.

Foreign media say airports have been shut down while Al-Bashir might have fled to Saudi Arabia.

Protesters are now demanding that the military should only supervise Al-Bashir’s resignation but not take over power.

Over 50 persons have been killed since agitation for Al-Bashir’s resignation began in December.
