Oluwo: Protesters storm Government House, demand suspension

Oluwo of Iwo Land Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi

Protesters on Monday stormed Osun State Secretariat, Abere, over the physical attack on their monarch, Agbowu of Ogbagba, Oba Dhikirulahi Olaniran, on Friday during a peacemaking meeting with the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and others.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘Justice must prevail, ‘Oluwo destroys traditions: Suspend him!’, ‘Oyetola save our souls’ and ‘Suspend Rasheed Akanbi now’, among others.

The attack occurred at a meeting held at Zone XI Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Osogbo.

The meeting had in attendance several monarchs following a petition against them by the Oluwo, who accused them of selling land in his domain.

After it was suggested that the matter should be taken to court, the Oluwo was said to have pounced on the Agbowu.

Oba Akanbi, however, says he acted on self-defence.

“At the peace meeting held at the AIG’s office, Agbowu of Ogbagba interrupted me while making my speech and called me unprintable names, pointing his staff of office at me while attempting to stick the staff in my eyes, which was heavily rejected with force which Agbowu could not withstand,” he told Punchng.com over the weekend.
