Okonjo-Iweala congratulates Akinwumi Adesina, team for raising $7.6bn

Former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has congratulated the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, and his team for successfully replenishing the African Development Fund.

Mr Adesina announced on Thursday night that the bank successfully raised $7.6 billion for Africa’s low income and fragile states.

According to him, it was a huge feat worthy of celebration as the bank exceeded its target.

“Good news on a successful replenishment for the African Development Fund! Congrats to all stakeholders, @AfDB_Group’s staff,  and Board, and to their tireless President @akin_adesina,” Mrs Okonjo-Iweala said on Friday on Twitter.

The former World Bank managing director was one of those who congratulated Adesina when he was named 2019 African of the Year by Forbes Africa.

“Congratulations to my brother, @Akin_Adesina  President AfDB, on being named Forbes Africa’s African of the Year! Great way for Akin and his wonderful wife, Yemisi, to end 2019!” she said on Twitter.
