Peter Obi

Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 election, Peter Obi, has commiserated with the government and people of Lagos State on the collapse of a three-storey building on Wednesday.

The collapsed building in the Ita Faji area of Lagos Island, claimed the lives of no less than 12 pupils of a nursery and primary school amog others.

In a statement on Thursday morning by Mr Obi’s spokesperson, Valentine Obienyem, the former Anambra state governor said the tragic incident, like the recent crash of an Ethiopian Aircraft, should elicit the compassion and concern of everyone, because “we are all part of humanity”.

While praying to Almighty God to grant the souls of the dead eternal repose, Obi expressed worry at the continued incidence of collapsed buildings across the country.

He called on relevant agencies and organisations “to double their efforts towards seeking lasting solution to the menace.”

He also urged public authorities at all tiers to take the issue of mass housing seriously to avoid Nigerian citizens taking up accommodation in worn-out buildings.
