First Lady of Edo State, Betsy Obaseki, has been elected president of Southern Governors’ Wives Forum.

Her emergence comes barely one month after her husband, Godwin Obaseki, was made vice chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).

In a statement late Saturday by Mr Obaseki’s spokesman, Peter Okonkwo, the governor said his wife emerged president at an election conducted at the First Ladies’ Conference in Abuja.

The conference was held ahead of the dinner and award night organised by the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari, for the wives of immediate past and incoming state governors of the country.

The statement said the wife of the governor of Niger State, Amina Bello, was elected as president of the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum.

In her acceptance speech at the dinner, Mrs Obaseki appreciated the wives of the Southern governors for choosing her to lead them and pledged to move the association to greater heights.

She commended Mrs Buhari for her ‘visionary leadership’ and for assembling the wives of the 36 state governors towards impacting their states in the manner they had done in the past four years.
