Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and former governor Lucky Igbinedion among others poured encomiums on the late music icon Victor Uwaifo at the tribute/service of songs held on Thursday.

Mr Obaseki said Uwaifo brought glory to Edo State, adding that the singer was dexterous, applying himself to verse as he did to visual arts.

The governor said Uwaifo built an illustrious and impressive oeuvre of creative output in his wake.

Igbinedion described Uwaifo as a cultural ambassador. “As Commissioner for Arts and Culture during my administration, he served the state well, performed well and brought a lot of credit to my administration. I thank the Uwaifo family for allowing him to serve the state,” he said.

Igbinedion also urged the children of the deceased to keep their father’s legacy alive.

Uwaifo’s daughter Oghomwen Uwaifo described her father as an inspiration to the children, adding that he had unique abilities and was very hardworking.

The state chief judge Justice Joe Acha and chief of staff of the governor Osaigbovo Iyoha were also at the event.
