Obasanjo visits Sokoto, commiserates with Sultan, Shagari over Shinkafi’s death

R-L: Obasanjo, Shagari and Tambuwal

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described the late Umaru Shinkafi as a committed nationalist who worked tirelessly for the unity and development of the country.

Speaking in Sokoto Sunday when he paid a condolence visit to the deceased’s family and the Sultan of Sokoto, Obasanjo said Shinkafi’s death, and that of Maiduguri-based elder statesman, Shattima Ali Monguno, have robbed the country of honest voices who still had a lot to offer the nation.

He said even though we cannot question the work of God, present leaders should emulate both Shinkafi and Monguno in their dealings with other Nigerians.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal thanked Obasanjo for the visit and prayed that God rewards him accordingly.

On his part, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad commended Obasanjo for his gesture of friendship, adding that Shinkafi lived a worthy life of service to his country.

Obasanjo equally paid a visit to former President Shehu Shagari and prayed that God should grant him good health.
