Former President Olusegun Obasanjo arrived Enugu State on Sunday dressed in a native Igbo tunic and red cap for the birthday colloquium of former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo John Nwodo.

Obasanjo was received at the airport alongside Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Speaking at St. Mulumba’s Catholic Church, New Haven, Enugu, Obasanjo said that “the age of a man does not matter much” as to his achievements and contributions to humanity, noting that “the life of a man really begins at 70”.

“It is not the number of years you spend here on Earth, the most important thing is your positive contributions to humanity and God,” he added.

Obasanjo prayed to God to continue guiding the celebrant as he endeavours to make positive contributions to the development and unity of the country.

Adebanjo also extolled the traits of Nwodo to build bridges and friendships across the country.

“I congratulate him for his love for humanity and the progress of everybody he comes across. We thank God for his life,” he said.

Obi of Onitsha Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe said the former minister of information remains a man of many parts that had contributed much in various fields of human endeavour and community development.

Achebe described him as “a great nation builder and an outstanding bridge builder” who sees all Nigerians as one and the same family.

Other dignitaries who graced the thanksgiving service include presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; Jim Nwobodo and Senator Ken Nnamani.
