NPFL wonder strike set to win CNN Goal of the Week

NPFL

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is gradually getting the recognition it so much deserves after one of its stars was nominated for CNN Goal of the Week.

The accolade spearheaded by the leading news agency recognises the best goals each week from all over the world irrespective of nationality, league or club as voted for by fans on Twitter.

It is for this reason that Mountain of Fire Ministries FC (MFM FC) forward, Sikiru Olatunbosun, was shortlisted for his extraordinary strike in the 2-1 win over Enugu Rangers last Friday.

A backheel flick puts the ball right at Olatunbosun’s feet and he lets it bounce once before flicking it over the defender and then rifling a long-range volley into the back of the net.

The young forward thus becomes the first player from the NPFL to be considered for the top award.

In fact, he is almost certain to pick up the coveted prize after garnering more than 80 percent of the total votes with two days to go.

The other nominees are Joey Jones [Woking FC], Radja Nainggolan [Roma] and Y. Tielemans [Anderlecht].
