Now we feast, Osimhen says as goal earns Napoli first Serie A title in 33 years

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has called on supporters of Napoli to feast after leading the club to its first Serie A title in 33 years.

The 24-year-old former Lille striker was on target as Napoli were crowned Serie A champions on Thursday night in their 1-1 draw at Udinese.

Sandi Lovric had given Udinese the lead on 13 minutes as Napoli looked set to delay their title celebrations again.

Osimhen, on a three-match goal drought, equalised for Napoli in the 52nd minute with a well-placed shot from a loose ball in the area to score his 22nd league goal of the season.

The masked striker, who topped the league’s goalscoring chart, became the African with the highest number of goals in a Serie A season, beating the 21 goals scored by Samuel Eto’o for Inter Milan in the 2010/2011 season.

Osimhen’s equaliser is also his 46th goal in Serie A in his third season, equalling the record for the all-time African highest goalscorer in the league held by George Weah.

The draw means Napoli have an unassailable 80 points from 33 matches, 16 points ahead of second-placed Lazio with five matches left to play in the season.

Following the development, Osimhen wrote on Instagram, “Dear Napolitans, the Scudetto has been delivered. Now we feast.”
