Northern governors should meet over killing of farmers, Nigerians react

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong

Nigerians on social media have begun criticising governors in the northern region over the recent killing of 43 farmers in Borno by Boko Haram fighters.

The United Nations, however, says 110 farmers were killed.

The Northern Governors’ Forum headed by governor of Plateau State Simon Lalong had convened after the #EndSARS protest against police brutality in October. They condemned the scrapping of the notorious police unit – the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) – and called for the regulation of social media.

Some Nigerians on social media on Monday urged the governors to take the region’s insecurity challenges as priority.
