No top four assurances for Chelsea, says Mourinho

Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has confessed that he cannot guarantee the team a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Blues comfortably won the 2014-15 campaign, but they have struggled this term as they currently reside 15th in the table, 11 points behind leaders Manchester City.

In his Friday afternoon’s press conference, Mourinho, who has guided the team to just three league wins this season, was asked if the club can qualify for the Champions League, and he replied: “I can’t promise.”

He compared the fate that may befall Chelsea at the end of the season to what happened to Manchester United and Liverpool in recent history.

“Last season Liverpool win nothing and didn’t qualify for Champions League and they are still a big club and two years ago Manchester United didn’t even qualify for the Champions League, or Europa League and they are still a monster club,” he said.

Chelsea are nine points adrift of a top-four place ahead of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
