No sane person should support Naira Marley – Koffi

Koffi Comedian

Popular comedian, Koffi Idowu-Nuel, has said that no sane person should have supported the alleged actions of musician, Naira Marley.

The comic was speaking at a memorial lecture organised for reggae legend, Ras Kimono, by the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) on Monday.

Speaking about the decline in popularity of reggae music, he said: “The music being made today is to conquer depression, there’s a difference.”

He said that a lot of people listen to music today just to dance without appreciating the spiritual essence of music.

Continuing his address, he added: “Within 24 hours of Naira Marley’s arrest, it was as though they (people) were canvassing for (Nelson) Mandela.

“A lot of the youths are so depressed that the only place they find solace is in that activity the boy (Naira Marley) was talking about.”

Koffi said the youth see Marley as a sort of champion.

“If society was sane, no sane person would support what that boy (Naira Marley) was saying,” he said.

Naira is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission despite being granted bail by a Lagos High Court on May 31.
