Nigeria’s Ewa Cole sings Christmas songs for 31 hours to set Guinness World Record

Guinness World Record holder Ewa Cole

A Nigerian woman Ewaoluwa Olatunji, known professionally as Ewa Cole, has been awarded the record for the longest marathon of singing Christmas songs by the Guinness World Records (GWR).

According to a report from GWR on Wednesday, the 29-year-old sang Christmas songs for 31 hours to set the record.

“Ewa sang for a total of 31 hours from December 27 to 28 to become the first holder of this record,” GWR stated on their website.

The Lagos-born who is also known as the ‘Queen of Afro-Solk’ said she undertook the challenge to “promote peace and unity” and to inspire confidence in young people.

The Guinness World Record disclosed that during her record attempt, Ewa sang classic Christmas songs such as ‘Deck the Halls’, ‘Frosty the Snowman’, ‘Silent Night’, and many others. She was not allowed to repeat any song within one hour.

GWR added that just like every other ‘longest marathon’ record attempt, after every continuous hour of singing, Ewa was permitted a five-minute rest break, which could be accumulated if not taken. These were the only times that she had the chance to eat, sleep, or make use of the bathroom.

Ewa said that she considered giving up, especially during the most challenging period between the eighth and 12th hours and had an urgent need to use the restroom.

“I had consumed a drink that caused mild food poisoning symptoms, forcing me to hold in flatulence to avoid public embarrassment. I was simultaneously experiencing profuse sweating, stomach, head, and throat aches, along with an urgent need to use the restroom.

“I never once stopped singing, even when I completely lost my voice. I will say that God was absolutely by my side throughout,” she said.

Ewa who works as a software engineer and also runs her own clothing brand told GWR that she is glad to have earned this Guinness World Records title and is “still buzzing with excitement”.
