Nigerians troll Tammy Abraham for turning down Super Eagles

After seeing the Super Eagles qualify for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, some fans have turned their attention to Tammy Abraham, who recently turned down an invitation to play for Nigeria.

Despite playing for England at junior levels, the Swansea City striker still qualifies to switch allegiance according to FIFA rules.

But the Chelsea loanee has committed his future to the country he represented at the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Poland in spite of a meeting with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick.

“I have informed The FA that I remain available for selection for England,” he said amid recent media reports that he had agreed to play for Nigeria.

He continued: “Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

“I can confirm I met the President of the NFF after our last game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father.

“However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark.”

Nigeria is also interested in Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke and Sheyi Ojo, Everton’s Ademola Lookman and Tottenham’s Josh Onomah, all of who are current members of the English U-20 team.

With the Russia 2018 World Cup ticket now confirmed, Nigerians could not help taking a dig at Abraham and others with Nigerian ancestry who are still eyeing a call-up to the England senior national team.
