Actor Murphy Ray-Eyiwumi has said Nigerians have complained about nearly every president who has led the country, with only two exceptions.
In an interview on the Talk To B podcast, he stated that every Nigerian leader has faced public criticism, except for Murtala Muhammed and the late Musa Yar’Adua.
According to Ray, both leaders spent relatively short periods in office, which he believes shaped public perception around them.
“There is no president that has ruled this country that we have not complained about, except for Muritala, who was killed after six months and Yar’Adua, who died untimely; they are the only ones. Aside from these two, which other presidents have we prayed for in this country? Muritala was killed because he was a military man,” he said.
Murtala Muhammed ruled Nigeria briefly in 1975 before he was assassinated during the 1976 Nigerian coup attempt, while Musa Yar’Adua served as a civilian president from 2007 until his death in 2010 after a prolonged illness.
Murphy Ray-Eyiwumi hails from the Eyiwumi family, known in early Nollywood circles. He began acting in the late 1990s and has built a career in the Yoruba film industry, appearing in more than 100 films.
Some of his works include Botife, Okunkun Biribiri, Okanjua, Baba Elesin, Oduduwa, Iboji, Esu Masemi and Eewo Orisa.
