Nigerian fighter, Kamaru Usman, has defeated his challenger, Jorge Masvidal, to retain his welterweight championship in a unanimous decision at UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Masvidal, who was called in as a last-minute replacement after Gilbert Burns tested positive for coronavirus, had called Usman “mentally weak” prior to the fight.

The ‘Nigerian Nightmare’, as Usman is fondly called, defeated Masvidal via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 49-46).

This is the ninth time the Nigerian is winning via unanimous decision; his other victories have majorly been through knockouts.

The win ensures Usman’s 17th career victory and one defeat.

Masvidal lost 20 pounds in a week to step into the fight in Burns’ place. The American now has a record of 35 wins and 14 defeats.
