The federal government has named the Idu railway complex, station and the light rail station both in the Federal Capital Territory after the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed.

Minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi tweeted this on Tuesday.

“We @Nigeriagov have named the Idu railway complex, the station and the Light rail Station of the FCT after the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina J. Muhammed,” he said.

Mohammed is a former minister of environment in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Abuja light rail station is the first rapid transit system in the country and in West Africa and the second such system in sub-saharan Africa (after Addis Ababa Light Rail).

The first phase of the project connects the city centre to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, stopping at the Abuja-Kaduna railway station in Idu.
