Popular street soccer tournament, Neymar Jr’s Five, will be touching down Nigeria between March 3 and May 20.

Described as a small-scale World Cup for amateurs, the tourney which started in 2016 is the brainchild of Brazil forward, Neymar, and popular energy drink, Red Bull.

Unlike the traditional soccer tournaments, each team of five will compete against each other with an opponent’s team member eliminated whenever a goal is scored.

Also, a game lasts 10 minutes or until one team has no players left.

“I always dreamed of putting on my own signature tournament and inviting the best teams over to my hometown,” said the Barcelona forward.

In its first year, Neymar Jr’s Five had over 65,000 players take part from 47 countries.

But the competition has been extended to accommodate more nations spread over six continents.

Nigeria has been selected alongside Angola, Egypt, Mauritius and South Africa to stage the African finals.

The preliminary round will take place in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos while the final is scheduled for Victoria Island, Lagos with the winner taking home the trophy as well as representing Nigeria at the international showpiece.
