Dr Afolabi Mabogunje cyclist stabbed by robbers

Residents of Okupe Estate in Maryland, Lagos State are mourning Dr. Afolabi Mabogunje who died on Wednesday after he was stabbed by suspected armed robbers.

Mabogunje was until his death the treasurer of the Association of Inner Okupe Estate Residents (AIOER). The 58-year-old was well-loved in the estate.

News of his death was formally conveyed to residents on Thursday morning by the executives of the association.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing away of our beloved and hardworking estate treasurer – Dr. Folabi Mabogunje, who passed away yesterday after an unexpected incident.

“We pray the good Lord would strengthen all his loved ones during this difficult moment and fill the gap created by his death,” the message read.

Residents of the estate have been visiting the family of the deceased to pay their condolences.

A memorial page has also been opened on the internet for friends, associates and others to pay tribute.

A devoted cyclist, Mabogunje was stabbed by robbers around Shodex Gardens in Anthony on Thursday, September 9 while waiting for other cyclists for their morning exercise.

The information technology consultant died from the injuries a week after.

“We are still coming to terms with the unexpected loss of our dear friend. Your memory and legacy will forever be with us, General Mabogs. Ride on!” Cycology Cycling Club, of which he was a member wrote in a message on Facebook.
