Actress Nancy Iheme has sparked widespread debate online following her blunt dismissal of a 40-year-old man’s proposal during an Instagram Q&A session.
The exchange began when a follower expressed his interest in Nancy, stating, “I will need u to be my woman I am a 40 yr old guy.”
In response, she replied, “You can’t afford me… Move to the next person.”
Her comment quickly drew backlash from social media users, many of whom accused her of attaching a “price tag” to herself.
One critic, identified as Deacon Famous commented, “Coming from a lady in her 30s. A commodity and more.”
Reacting to the criticism, Nancy defended her stance, revealing that her response was based on certain observations she had made about the man.
“Listen, 40 years is a very sweet age for marriage, but don’t get me wrong when I said you can’t afford me. I know what I saw. You needed to see this 40-year-old person asking me to marry him. I don’t understand why I should settle for less… Holy Ghost fire, I will never settle for less!” she wrote in a lengthy response.
Nancy further elaborated that she had noticed “red flags” in the man’s situation, which led to her refusal.
“I said what I said… comments don’t get to me because I don’t care. 40 years with RED FLAGS everywhere. Oga, you can’t afford me, period,” she stated.
Doubling down on her position, Nancy shared a series of posts on her Instagram story on Friday.
One post read, “I will never settle for less… Somebody say fireeeee… No be me go feed man, na man go feed me…”
The actress also uploaded a video featuring a man who opined that dating a financially unstable man is a waste of time.
According to the man, many such individuals lack the intention to build meaningful relationships and only seek the benefits of a good woman without taking responsibility.
Nancy captioned the video, “Especially a 40 years old man.”
The incident has elicited mixed reactions online. While some criticised Nancy for her perceived rudeness and suggested she could have responded more diplomatically, others defended her, asserting that she has the right to make choices about her personal relationships.
