Cubana Chief Priest, born Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, has shared a heartfelt tribute to his late mother on Instagram, reflecting on her deep desire for him to become a Catholic priest.
In a post on Wednesday, featuring a throwback photo with her, he wrote that growing up, his mom wanted him to be a Catholic priest so badly because she promised God that her child would serve Him while she searched for the fruit of the womb for over six years.
He explained the significance of his name and his mother’s faith, saying his big brother was named Onyinyechukwu, meaning “Gift from God,” and he was named Chibuike, meaning “God Is My Strength,” after a difficult birth.
Despite his efforts, Cubana Chief Priest was unable to gain admission to the seminary. He admitted, “I did my best to gain admission to the seminary but I couldn’t make it to Catholic priesthood because many are called but few are chosen.”
Reflecting on the impact of his mother’s death, he shared, “Next year will make it 10 years I lost my mom and everyone who really knows my real story will testify that after my mom made it to heaven my story changed for good.”
Despite his success, he expressed feelings of guilt for not fulfilling his mother’s wish: “Everyday I live with the guilt that I disappointed my mama by not becoming a Catholic priest. She wanted to be called MaMa Father but rather I became the ChiefPriest.”
Concluding his message, he emphasised his continued commitment to serving God: “But fact remains that I’m still doing God’s work.”
In honor of his late mother and to express gratitude for his blessings, Cubana Chief Priest announced plans to release a Catholic Christian song.
He added a personal touch, “Indeed there is joy in my heart and it’s flowing like a river.”
