My mom didn’t pressure me about marriage – Seyi Shay

Singer and songwriter, Seyi Shay, has revealed that her late mother wanted her to marry but didn’t put too much pressure on her to do so.

The 32-year-old said this in an interview published by Vanguard on Saturday.

She expressed regret that her mother is not around to witness her success.

“I just wish she could see everything I’m doing now and see that I haven’t given up despite the setbacks. I believe she will be proud of me.”

Speaking on marriage, Seyi Shay said “Yes, it is true that she will want me to get married, but then she didn’t put too much pressure on me for that.

“She told me before she died to make sure I’ve done everything I want to do before I get married and not to allow any man to shatter my dream.”

Seyi Shay told ThisDay back in a January 2015 that although she was with someone, she was not ready for marriage then.

“I really want to get married, and I know this will shock your readers, but I’m not bothered if I don’t get married because I would rather have a man that will be with me forever, the value of marriage has been washed up dead.

“And the way everybody is getting married and divorcing makes it not a big deal to be together anymore. I’m with someone I’m happy with and I don’t know if we would be life partners, but for now I’m happy with him,” she revealed.

Things seem to have changed, as she said in an interview with Punch last month: “Now, I am ready for marriage, I even sang about it in my new project.”
