Musical copyright society congratulates PMAN president Pretty Okafor on court ruling

PMAN President Pretty Okafor

The Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Ltd/Gte (MCSN) has congratulated president of the Performing Musicians Employers Association (PMAN) Pretty Okafor on the recent judgment of the Nigerian Industrial Court (NIC) delivered on November 12, affirming his presidency.

In a letter dated November 27 and signed by the CEO of MCSN Mayo Ayilaran, the society stated that the judgment has presented a solid platform for PMAN to henceforth move forward as a formidable organisation to restore the lost glory of the association and the entire musicians in Nigeria.

“We at MCSN believe that you and your executive possess all it takes to achieve this,” the letter stated.

Continuing, it stated, “It gladdens us that the judgment leaves no lacuna for anyone to henceforth factionalise or cause confusion in PMAN and we trust that you would do what is necessary to pass on and institutionalise this legacy for a very long time beyond your tenure.”

MCSN advised the PMAN president not to see the victory as a personal one but that of everyone involved in the struggle for the soul of PMAN in over a decade and every stakeholder in the union.

“We would be pleased to see you presenting this judgment not as a personal victory to yourself and your National Working Committee (NWC) alone, but to everyone involved in the struggle for the soul of PMAN in the past 15 years or thereabout and every member and stakeholder of PMAN. Your magnanimity in victory would go a long way in achieving great success for the association,” the letter stated.

MCSN advised everyone connected with the musicians’ union to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the onerous task of building a great PMAN, a robust and beneficial music industry and a prosperous entertainment industry at large.

“We have no doubt that our partnership would guarantee these. While wishing you all the best, we pray for God’s guidance and wisdom,” the letter concluded.
