Music industry became toxic when Davido emerged – Samklef

Record producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, known as Samklef, has blamed singer Davido for what he described as the growing toxicity in the Nigerian music industry.

Samklef made the allegation while reacting to a tweet by producer turned singer Pheelz, who spoke about the negative impact of comparisons in the industry.

Pheelz wrote, “Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know.”

Responding, Samklef agreed with the sentiment but accused Davido of introducing a toxic culture into the music space.

According to him, “Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love.”

He added, “Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.”

Continuing, Samklef said, “Then one Scorpio boy who moves like diddy..Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic.”

The producer further alleged, “Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere.”

Samklef’s remarks quickly sparked reactions on social media and revived discussions about rivalry, fan culture and competition within the Nigerian music industry.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is one of Nigeria’s most successful artistes with multiple international hits and awards.
