Mother loses 4 children in Warri fire disaster

Four children born of the same mother, on Tuesday, died in a fire accident at their home in Animal Line by Dore Street, off Mciver Market, Warri, Delta State.

The children were aged between six months and six years.

Mother of the children was severely burnt in the fire; she, however, made it alive after being taken to a hospital.

The tragedy was said to have occurred between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The landlord of the affected building, Tuoyo Eyikimi, sustained minor injuries.

Mr Eyikimi said he suspected adulterated kerosene as the cause of the inferno.

Chairman of Warri South local government area, Michael Tidi, alongside members of his executive team, joined residents at the scene of the incident on Wednesday morning.

Tidi expressed great shock when he saw the charred remains of the children.

The chairman immediately directed the councillor representing Pessu Ward in Warri South council legislative arm, Emmanuel Egbe, to offset the medical bill of the hospitalised mother.

He also directed that a scholarship grant be given to the 15-year-old eldest child of the woman, Prosper Obodo, who lives with a relative in another part of Warri.

Tidi warned against the use of adulterated kerosene and tasked media practitioners as well as the National Orientation Agency, to embark on advocacy against the sale and use of adulterated kerosene to avert further loss of lives and property.
