Mixed fortunes as Ighalo, Ujah hit target in Europe

Nigeria duo, Odion Ighalo and Anthony Ujah, were on target for their respective clubs in the Barclays Premier League and German Bundesliga on Saturday.

Ighalo led Watford to a historic first victory at Villa Park with the opening goal – his eight of the season – in a 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

The 26-year-old capitalised on Villa’s fragile defensive setup in the 17th minute to score his club’s first on the day – before turning provider for skipper, Troy Deeney five minutes before full time for the third.

Alan Hutton had earlier scored the second from an Ighalo through pass to Deeney in the 69th minute while Micah Richards and Jordan Ayew got the goals for Villa in the 41st and 89th minutes respectively.

The victory is Quique Flores Sanchez side’s fifth of the season – their third on the road – which takes their point tally to 19.

It was joy in defeat for Ujah who scored his sixth of the season for Werder Bremen but fell 3-1 at home to rivals, Hamburg.

Ujah pulled a goal back for the home side in the 62nd minute to take scores to 2-1.

Ivan Ilicevic, Michael Greegoritsch and Niccolai Mueller got the goals for Hamburg.

The Die Werderaner are 15th on the league table with 13 points from 14 games, while Hamburg are sixth with 21 points from 14 games.
