Minor, 8 others killed in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

FRSCNine persons, including a child, were killed in a multiple crash at KM84 (Catholic turning) along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday morning.

Information obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) indicated that the crash which involved a tanker and two Mazda buses occurred at about 9:45am.

It was said to have been caused when the tanker ran into the two other vehicles.

Eyewitnesses reported that FRSC officials, policemen and firemen arrived early at the scene for rescue operation and traffic control.

The driver of the articulated tanker with registration number KTU 451 XJ belonging to BHN Logistics, accused of causing the crash, ran away from the scene but was later apprehended by an FRSC Patrol team from RS2.23, Mowe at Ibafo, Ogun State, a distance of about 10KM from the scene of the crash.

A statement posted on the FRSC Facebook page said the vehicle had been impounded and the driver will be prosecuted accordingly.

Elsewhere, two fatalities were recorded and three injured in a crash which occurred at 11:45am at Ajara along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway (by 242 RECCE Battalion).

The vehicles involved were a white Lexus SUV, a green Mitsubishi Charisma and a Mazda car.

Victims were taken to the Badagry General hospital.
