Prison

Two farmers were on Wednesday remanded in prison on the orders of a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Minna for allegedly kidnapping a six-year-old boy.

Magistrate Nasiru Muazu ordered that Aliyu Yakuchi and Legbo Yasaba be remanded in custody after they were arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping from lawful guardianship, contrary to sections 97 and 273 of the penal code law respectively.

Magistrate Muazu adjourned the matter until July 10 for further mention.

Earlier, police prosecutor, ASP Daniel Ikwoche, told the court that one Idris Bawa of Kambari village in Katchia Local Government Area of Niger State reported the matter at the station on May 29.

Ikwoche said the complainant alleged that on May 18 at about 10 p.m., the accused persons kidnapped a six-year-old boy from the lawful custody of his parents and took him to an unknown location.

He noted that during the police investigation, they confessed to the crime and handed over the boy to one other person, now at large, for ritual purpose.

When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor thereafter prayed the court for an adjournment to enable police to complete its investigation.
