Meet Yinka Adewale, Kunle Afolayan’s cameraman who is in the US Army

Kunle Afolayan’s new movie Citation is long out for public viewing but several things remain striking about it, one of which is cameraman Yinka Adewale who is also an SPC (specialist) in the US Army.

Yinka is also a former beauty queen, film director, actor and writer. She has a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos and a master’s degree in Film and Media Production from the New York Film Academy.

She made her acting debut in the movie Voiceless Scream, acting as Eve Ketiku. The movie also stars Jide Kosoko, Yemi Sholade, Victor Olaotan, Shaffy Bello, Uru Eke and others.

She also features in a three-minute US family film Things Are Not What They Seem released in 2018.

Yinka features as an extra on the 2019 movie The Decision. The movie unearths a young bipolar man who must overcome his dysfunctional family in order to uncover the truth behind his brother’s death.

In 2019, she wrote and directed a short drama titled Opening Up released in the US. The movie stars Shanay Morant, Angela Watson and Bud John Phineas.

She was cameraman/focus puller on the set of Kunle Afolayan’s Citation released on Netflix on November 6.

Working alongside the award-winning director of photography Jonathan Kovel, Yinka did not only handle the camera on set, it was also her duty to prevent accidental collision with equipment.

She took her oath of enlistment as a specialist in the US Army in California in January 2020.

Sharing the news on Instagram, she wrote: “Today, I am somebody nobody thought I could be. A great motivation for everyone out there… you can always be whoever you choose to be!”

“Although SPC Adewale has ventured into a daring career in the military, she will always be a part of our family,” a statement from Kunle Afolayan Production reads.
