Kannywood actor Ali Nuhu is mourning former President Muhammadu Buhari with a heartfelt prayer.
The 51-year-old posted a photo of Buhari on Instagram on Sunday alongside the caption: “Allah ya jikan ka da rahama Baba,” which translates to “May Allah have mercy on you and grant you forgiveness, Baba.”
Ali’s message came shortly after news broke of Buhari’s death in London at the age of 82. According to a statement from the presidency, the former military and civilian leader died after a prolonged illness.
Buhari, born on December 17, 1942, ruled Nigeria first as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
While his administration was known for its anti-corruption drive and infrastructure development, it was also marked by criticisms over human rights issues and insecurity, particularly during the #EndSARS protests.
Ali Nuhu, regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Hausa-language film industry, joins many other northerners and Nigerians in paying tribute to the late statesman.
Buhari’s body is expected to be flown back to Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic traditions.
