Many feared killed, houses burnt in Jalingo

hoodlums cause violence at Fadeyi

Many have been feared killed while several houses have been reported burnt in a crisis that began late Sunday in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.

The violence was said to have begun at Kasuwan Bera in ATC area near Taraba State University around 5 pm.

Reports say the Kona ethnic group blocked a highway and attacked innocent travellers.

Students of the university were seen fleeing the area.

Police have not been able to put together the casualty figure.

However, many shops in the troubled area have stayed closed; while residents have also stayed indoors.

The Kona ethnic group and Fulani had clashed some weeks ago leading to the killing of several persons in parts of Jalingo and Ardo Kola.

The group was also alleged to have abducted and killed three cattle merchants after dispossessing them of over N7 million a fortnight ago.
