Manchester United legends honour Sir Alex Ferguson at 77

Sir Alex Ferguson

David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand and Eric Cantona were among a host of former Manchester United stars to wish legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson a happy birthday on Monday.

The fiery Scot turned 77 in what has proved a difficult year with health issues.

Ferguson enjoyed a glittering career at United winning 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League titles.

It has been a personally difficult year for the former Aberdeen boss after he had an emergency operation at Salford Royal Hospital in May having suffered a brain haemorrhage.

He was monitored in intensive care before being discharged in June to recover at home with his family.

The world of football wished him a speedy and full recovery and he recently returned to the stands to watch United – even if doctors advised him to stay away from the recent home win over Fulham.
