Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have arrested a bus driver who hit an officer, Akerele Christopher, who was controlling traffic along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Mowe, Ogun State.

The affected officer, a deputy route commander, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A source who gave his name as Tunde told Punchng.com that the driver hit the FRSC officer to evade arrest.

“Most of these drivers can do anything to avoid arrest. If that driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drug, he might be driving with expired or non-existent vehicle papers.

“If FRSC officers will do their work well, any vehicle without complete documents should not be allowed to ply Nigerian roads,” he said.

Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, said: “An officer of the corps, while enforcing traffic regulations on the Lagos-Ibadan  Expressway around Mowe was hit by a reckless driver of a Mazda bus, who was driving against traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“The vehicle was impounded. Although the driver immediately ran away, he was, however, overpowered and arrested. The injured officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and he is in stable condition.”
