Man, 35, in court for allegedly defiling minor

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded a 35- year -old painter, Rasaq Mutiu in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter.

Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni, who refused to listen to the plea of the accused, ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Akanni adjourned the case until April 30 for mention.

The accused, who resides at 1, Afisuru St., Moshalashi area of Alakuko, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu had told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 3 at his residence.

Ogu said the accused defiled the girl when she went to his room to watch television.

“When the accused was defiling the girl, a neighbour heard her screams and forcefully opened the door.

“The accused was dragged to the police station by some men in the compound,” he said.

Ogu said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
