Makinde absent at Olubadan’s eighth-day fidau

The eighth-day fidau for the late Olubadan of Ibadanland Oba Saliu Adetunji was held on Sunday at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State in line with Muslim rites.

Governor Seyi Makinde was represented by his commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Bayo Lawal.

Others who were present include former governor Rasidi Ladoja, Senator Teslim Folarin (Oyo Central), former governorship candidate, Bayo Adelabu; Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, and Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Daud Makanjuola.

Also present were Azeez Adeduntan, Dotun Sanusi, and chief imam of Ibadanland, Abdulganiy Agbotomokekere.

Prof. Jamiu Olosho and Pastor Iyiola Oladokun in their sermons urged politicians and leaders to be of good character and work in unity towards the development of the country.

Gospel musician Bola Are described the late monarch as a peace-loving man, who dedicated his life to the development of Ibadan and Oyo State.

Oba Adetunji died on January 2 at the University College Hospital (UCH).

Adetunji, who was crowned the 41st Olubadan on March 4, 2016, was born on August 26, 1928, to the family of Raji Olayiwola and Suwebat Amope Adetunji in the Alusekere compound, Popoyemoja, Ibadan.

He was the first of 17 children of his parents.

He grew up learning vocational jobs until he took up fashion designing as a means of living after moving into Lagos.

While working as a fashion designer, Adetunji delved into musical record marketing until 1960 when he founded his first of three record label imprints called Baba Laje Records which housed notable Fuji music acts, including Dauda Epo-Akara and K1 De Ultimate.
