Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has appointed Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).
Mr. Akinwole, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Oyo North in the 2023 elections, was appointed through a letter dated April 28, 2025. The letter was signed by Segun Ogunwuyi, chief of staff to the governor.
The letter conveyed Governor Makinde’s confidence in Akinwole’s ability to lead, stating, “I am delighted to inform you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, has graciously approved your appointment as Chairman, Local Government Service Commission (LGSC). The appointment takes effect from 28th April, 2025.
“While heartily congratulating you on your appointment, which must be seen as a further call to service, His Excellency and Oyo State Government expect that you will discharge your duties with absolute loyalty, dedication, and diligence.”
Alongside Akinwole, the governor also appointed Yusuf Ali Akinkunmi, Oke Taiwo, John Abisoye Adisa-Oke, and Nike Arewa as members of the newly constituted commission.
All appointments are effective immediately.
The local government service commission plays a crucial role in the administration and oversight of local government affairs in Oyo State. Governor Makinde’s selection of Akinwole and others is seen as a step toward strengthening grassroots governance and improving service delivery across the state.
