Lupita Nyong’o calls for end to police brutality in Nigeria

Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong’o has called for an end to police brutality in Nigeria.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday, Lupita said she was calling on Nigerian leaders to value the lives of the people.

“I echo the declaration of the people in Nigeria to END POLICE BRUTALITY and the call for their lives to be valued by the leaders of their nation.

“Last week, the world saw this call answered with the wounding and murders of Nigerians in Lekki. I so badly want the end of this kind of violence and abuse of authority for Nigeria, for my own country, Kenya, and for the country I live in now, USA,” Lupita wrote.

The call for the end to police brutality led to the #EndSARS protest which lasted over two weeks.

The police have moved ahead with the plan to replace the notorious unit Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
