Lucky Igbinedion’s mother’s killer sentenced to death by hanging

Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of a Criminal Court 1 in Benin, Edo State has sentenced to death by hanging Dominion Okoro, the housemaid who killed Maria Igbinedion, mother of ex-governor of Edo, Lucky Igbinedion.

Madam Igbinedion, 85, was killed at her residence in GRA, Benin City on December 2, 2021.

The court heard that Okoro killed the octogenarian in a bid to steal jewellery and money. The convict was arrested after she fled to Cross River.

Okoro and her sister Patience were arraigned over the murder.

Delivering judgment on the case on June 20, Justice Ikponmwonba sentenced Okoro to death by hanging for murder and robbery with violence.

The judge sentenced her to life imprisonment for count two which was for applying harmful substances to the octogenarian.

Patience, who was charged with accessory, was discharged and acquitted.
