Governors from the south-east region have announced a joint security outfit codenamed Ebube Agu (wonderful tiger).

South-west governors had about a year ago set up a similar outfit codenamed Amotekun Corps.

The new security outfit was born out of a security meeting south-east governors held on Sunday in Imo with stakeholders of the region.

Governors of Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu states were present at the meeting.

Also in attendance were navy and air force commanders, inspector-general of police, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and others.

The meeting came as a fallout of the attack on Owerri Custodial Centre where gunmen freed 1,884 inmates. The Imo State Police Command was also attacked by gunmen who set several vehicles ablaze on the same day.

Imo State Government announced the new security outfit on Twitter, saying: “South-East Governors set up the South-East joint security outfit code named EBUBEAGU.”

They also banned open grazing and urged the security agencies to enforce the ban in the states.
