Filmmaker Stephanie Linus has raised an alarm over a fake AI-generated video circulating online that uses her identity to promote an investment scheme.
Taking to her Instagram page on Friday, Stephanie shared screenshots of the supposed news broadcast and warned the public against falling for the scam.
She wrote, “FAKE AI VIDEO SCAM ALERT!!!
This is becoming too much.
A fake AI-generated video is circulating on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms using my face, voice, and TVC’s name to promote an ‘investment.’ This video is not from me. It is 100% fake and created by scammers to deceive people.”
The filmmaker urged people to ignore and report any messages linked to the video, stressing that she is not associated with any such investment.
“Please ignore and report any message, investment offer, or request for money claiming to be from me. My updates come only from my verified pages. Authorities and digital platforms have been notified. Let’s protect our loved ones and shut this down,” she said.
Stephanie also outlined steps the public can take to help stop the spread of the scam.
“Please this is what you can do now:
• Find the video wherever you see it
• Report the fake page as Fraud / Impersonation
• Comment: ‘FAKE AI SCAM – Report this.’
• Do not share the fake video — share this warning instead,” she added.
Stephanie Linus is a Nollywood filmmaker and producer, known for her role in the movie Through the Glass and for her advocacy on maternal health and social issues.
She is also the chairperson of the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC), which selects Nigerian films for international festivals and awards.
