LAWMA official pleads guilty to harming man with stick

Prison

A 20-year-old Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA) official, Michael John, has pleaded guilty to causing harm to a man with the use of a stick.

Magistrate F.O. Hughes of Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that the LAWMA official be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending review of the facts of the case and sentencing.

Mr John, a resident of Agege area of Lagos, was arraigned for conspiracy and assault.

The court heard that the defendant committed the offences with other persons at large along Ogunjobi Street, Dopemu, Agege in Lagos on June 5.

Police prosecutor, Ishola Samuel, said that the defendant assaulted Moshood Majiyagbe by using a ‘big’ stick to cause ‘serious injury’ on the head and right hand over a disagreement.

The prosecutor said Mr Majiyagbe “sustained an open injury on his head.”

The alleged offences contravened Sections 411 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, according to Mr Ishola.

The magistrate adjourned the case until July 22 for review and sentencing.

The LAWMA official faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
