Late Ekiti speaker Funminiyi Afuye’s daughter marries three days after father’s death

Abisola Afuye, daughter of the late speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly Funminiyi Afuye, on Saturday got married to Babatunde Adebayo.

The wedding in GRA Lagos comes three days after her father’s sudden death.

The couple held an engagement ceremony before heading to church for the white wedding.

High-profile personalities including Oba Adedokun Abolarin, the Orangun of Oke-lla in Osun State attended the ceremony.

Oba Abolarin was the friend of Afuye from 1975 till his death. They were also business partners and ran a law chamber together in GRA, Ikeja.

Afuye represented Ikere Constituency 1 at the assembly. He died on Wednesday evening at the age of 66.

He was first elected to the assembly in 2007 on the platform of the defunct Action Congress (AC). He rose to become majority leader. Afuye was re-elected to the assembly in 2019.

During his time away from the assembly, he was appointed to the cabinet of former governor Kayode Fayemi first as commissioner for information, and as commissioner for regional integration.
