Lagos shuts Ojodu school over fatal truck accident

Lagos State Government has shut down Bab Fafunwa Millennium School, Ojodu, formerly known as Ojodu Grammar School until January 2022 following an accident that occurred on Tuesday where several pupils were reportedly killed.

Reports had said 10 students were killed, but the police said two pupils died while 12 were injured.

The state was forced to shut the school after hoodlums joined students in protest on Wednesday.

It was gathered that hoodlums tried to set ablaze Ojodu Police Station. The police had prevented a mob from lynching the driver of the truck which ran over the pupils.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed this in a statement posted to Instagram.

He said, “There are no words adequate enough to express one’s feelings to a parent for the loss of their child. However, we must always express our deepest sympathy, and ask that the Almighty God takes control and comfort everyone.

“I hereby send my heartfelt condolences to the parents of the pupils who lost their lives, and also to pupils who sustained injuries at the Grammar school bus stop, Ojodu, truck incident.

“We have immediately ordered that the affected schools be shut down till January, while investigations are ongoing. The erring driver has also been apprehended and arrested.”
