LAGOS NIPR LAPRIGA

Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) will on December 19 host its fourth edition of the Lagos Public Relations Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA).

Lagos NIPR chairman, Olusegun McMedal, told journalists during a press briefing on Friday at Ikeja that the chapter would be awarding close to 30 honourees in different categories.

“This year’s LaPRIGA will be the biggest ever and the loudest ever,” Mr McMedal said.

The event themed ‘PR Ovation’ is scheduled to hold at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, with over 400 persons expected.

McMedal added that the LaPRIGA began 10 years ago as The Eagles Award before it was renamed.

The first edition of LaPRIGA in 2016 saw 11 honourees, the number increased to 15 in 2017, while there were 22 honourees in 2018.

The chairman assured that honourees for this year’s LaPRIGA, just like previous editions, would be selected by a panel.

“Honourees will be carefully chosen by a selection panel. These are individuals who have served as leaders in the public relations industry,” he said.

President of African Public Relations Association (APRA), Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, in his goodwill message, said he was impressed with the work the McMedal-led executive had done since elected.

Mr Badejo-Okusanya led in observing a minute silence in honour of former information minister, Alex Akinyele, who died on Thursday aged 81.

Akinyele was the first former secretary-general of the NIPR and he eventually became the president.
