The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the demolition of Sabo Market in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, in a statement on Friday indicted desperate developers for the exercise.

“Government would no longer tolerate the connivance between desperate developers and local government or court staff to deny hard-working market traders of their means of livelihood,” Mr Ayorinde said.

Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed on Wednesday night when shops in the market were demolished after the traders had closed for the day.

A source in Alausa told Qed.ng earlier on Friday that the government immediately launched an internal investigation to determine those culpable.

“We do not carry out demolition without due notice,” the source told us.

“The exercise seems to have been carried out by developers with the connivance of some officials.

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is trying to determine who the accomplices are and at what tier of government they work.”
