Lady trafficked to Lebanon on course to return home – Abike Dabiri

Chairman/chief executive of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has assured that Ajayi Omolola who was trafficked to Lebanon would return home soon.

Ajayi’s plight became known after she made a video from Lebanon. The 23-year-old said in the video that she was tricked into going to Lebanon to teach English Language but was converted into slavery.

Mrs Dabiri-Erewa said in a tweet on Friday night that all hands were on deck to ensure her return.

“The alleged trafficker has been arrested and will be handed over to NAPTIP. The family of the lady have been traced. Kwara Gov is personally on the matter. All hands on deck to ensure the trafficked lady returns,” she said.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara said in a statement on Friday that it arrested one Lebanese and two Nigerians in connection with the incident.

The statement said the suspects were arrested in Ilorin on January 7 “for specialising in trafficking young girls to Lebanon for purposes of child labour and other related abuses.”

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, in a statement condemned the rising trend of human trafficking in the country and vowed to deal with anyone caught in the state according to the law.
