Kwara governor-elect denies submitting fake WAEC result to INEC

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

Kwara State Governor-elect, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has denied presenting a fake West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of requirements to contest the 2019 governorship election in the state.

Counsel to Abdulrazaq, Lawal Jimoh, told the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday that his client graduated from Government College, Kaduna in June 1976 as stated in the certificate.

A member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adekunle Abraham, in Apado ward, Ilorin East LGA, had instituted the suit.

The claimant’s lawyer told journalists after the court session that Abdulrazaq’s lawyer was yet to file a defence but only filed a memorandum of appearance for his client.

Mr Jimoh, however, said that his client was served notice of the suit on May 2 and appearance was filed immediately.

Justice Adenike Akinpelu has fixed June 10 for mention.
