Veteran actor Kola Oyewo has spoken about how his health condition has affected his acting career.
Kola shared this while speaking with Kunle Afod, explaining that he used to be active on set and committed to his roles before his illness.
He said, “Before I could walk up and down, if I was called for a role, I would always show up and give my best. But this illness has caused a major setback in my profession—I can no longer play certain roles. Sickness weakens one’s strength, even more as age advances. Though I know some people remain strong even in their 80s, I still thank God for my life.
“I was given a referral note at the hospital to go to Akure, but I became confused about who would take care of me there. So, I decided to return home instead and drove back. When I got home, I told my wife about the referral, but explained that I chose to come back. I then visited our family doctor, who began my treatment.
“The illness started with frequent urination—I couldn’t sleep at night. The urge to urinate would come suddenly, and before I could get to the toilet, it would already have leaked into my clothes. After several tests, it was discovered that I had an enlarged prostate.”
Kola’s health challenge became public in 2024 when Kunle visited him. He had revealed that the symptoms began around 2019, before he was diagnosed and treated.
Despite the condition, the actor said he remains grateful for life while adjusting to less demanding roles.
